One church in Albany is working to get illegal guns off the streets.
People were invited Saturday to turn in unregistered guns for Visa gift cards at Victory Church on Quail Street.
The program started 10 years ago.
The effort brings in 20 to 50 guns each year, according to Pastor Charlie Muller.
“We want this to be the best Christmas for everyone. We want it to be safe where people can walk out on their streets,” said Muller. “In order to do that, we need to be active on our streets, but also have an opportunity like this to get the wrong guns out of the wrong hands.”
The church said its goal is to start the new year with no more murders committed by illegally owned guns.
