A 76-year-old Greene County woman was killed when floodwaters submerged her SUV and swept it away.

First responders rushed to Cauterskill Road in Catskill around 10:15 a.m. Monday.

The current likely pulled the SUV under according to Greene County Emergency Management.

Heavy water flow prevented rescuers from getting to it. It came to rest against trees.

The driver, Maryann Hyland, of Leeds, was found dead in the driver’s seat.

The road was closed off and barricaded at the time, investigators said.

It takes just two feet of rushing water to carry away an SUV or truck, according to the National Weather Service.
