Everyone over the age of 2 should wear masks while in school during the upcoming academic year. That is according to updated recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
The association says it "strongly recommends" in-person learning, and urges everyone to get the COVID-19 vaccine if they are eligible.
However, the AAP says that since a "significant portion" of students are not eligible, then universal masking should be in place to reduce transmission of the virus. Regardless of vaccination status.
The AAP also said that schools should be prepared to adopt an all-encompassing approach for mental health support, and that strategies should be "revised and adapted" depending on the level of viral transmission in the community.
