Heavy torrential rains began saturating the West Sand Lake and Averill Park areas Wednesday afternoon, and residents say the rain kept coming, and the storm stayed for nearly two hours.
"We get some pretty good storms in the summertime, but this one just hung around and hung around all day long. It just kept raining and raining," said resident David Schroeder.
In fact, the area received anywhere between two and five inches of rain.
The fast moving waters wiped out the parking lot at The Old Daley Inn on Crooked Lake. Backyards were flooded all around the lake.
Roads were washed away.
School leaders in Averill Park say the high school has significant flood damage.
Rensselaer County leaders said Thursday all state roads are back open. However, some county routes were still closed.
