Caregivers should take time for themselves
Caregivers need time for themselves
Friday, Feb. 16 was National Caregivers Day.
The day recognizes caregivers in the health field and family members who look after loved ones.
A total of 36% of caregivers suffer from depression and anxiety, according to a report from Parade Media and the Cleveland Clinic.
In addition, 56% of caregivers said it’s not realistic for them to take a day off for their emotional and mental health.
It is important that caregivers get time for themselves, said Dr. Lucille Carriere, a clinical psychologist with Cleveland Clinic. It could be as simple as a five-minute walk or stepping outside to do a breathing exercise.
If you notice a caregiver having a hard time, talk to them and offer help.
