Albany Police warn of phone scam
Albany Police are warning the public of a phone scam.
Police received multiple calls last week from concerned citizens reporting that they are receiving calls that appear to be from an Albany Police Department phone number. The caller tells the person that their Social Security number has been compromised and someone from the Social Security Administration office would be coming to their residence to issue them a new number, police said.
Police want to remind you they will never ask for personal financial information over the phone.
Anyone who receives one of the scam calls is asked to hang up immediately.
You should not provide personal, credit or banking information to an unknown person that is calling, texting or emailing you. You should be aware of pressuring techniques in which people are saying they need to give information on the spot.
Call Albany Police at 518-438-4000 if they believe they are a victim of scam.
