Colonie man killed after head-on crash

A man was killed after a head-on crash Wednesday morning in Colonie.

The crash happened at around 8 a.m. near the intersection of old Loudon Road and the North Colonie Youth Baseball Complex at 1155 Loudon Road.

Ak Ahmed, 52, of Colonie, was driving north in a 2011 Subaru, said police, when he crossed over the median into the southbound lanes and struck a 2020 Volkswagen.

The Subaru ended up in a ditch on its side along the side of the road.

Ahmed was trapped in his vehicle. Rescue crews tried to extricate him, but he died at the same.

The driver of the Volkswagen, Morgan Woodcock, 29, of Mechanicville, was taken to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police don’t think speed or impairment were a cause.

Loudon Road was closed for about two hours for cleanup of a gasoline spill.

Any witnesses are asked to call police at 518-783-2744.
