DEC warns of slippery conditions on trails
The state Department of Environmental Conservation is warning people to avoid hiking on high-elevation trails, because the ground can be unstable and slippery.
The conditions are due to snow and ice melting and all the rain that the region has recently had.
DEC is also encouraging hikers to take extreme caution even on low-elevation trails, which could still have ice, flooded areas and deep, slushy snow.
