Cleanup crews precariously remove heavy trees at site of Troy landslide

Spring Avenue in Troy remained shut down in both directions on Tuesday after a landslide on Monday.

This landslide area is just below the Spring Little League fields, which do not seem to be affected.

Crews were busy Tuesday removing heavy and tall trees.

The concern is that if more of the hill were to slide, those trees could topple into Spring Avenue.

Traffic in the area has been blocked off.

Verizon fiber optic lines and copper telephone communication lines have been buried below grade.

They’ve been covered with heavy protective steel road plates while the tree removal continues.

Heavy equipment will be brought in Wednesday, including a 75-foot boom high reach excavator. That’s when the slope modifications will begin.

Part of that job includes the insertion of drainage into the face of the embankment.

Spring Avenue will remain shut down until the remediation is complete, which is expected later this week.
