Lake George is mourning town Supervisor Dennis Dickinson.

Dickinson, who had been the supervisor since 2012, died late Wednesday.

He had served as chairman of the Warren County Board of Supervisors Occupancy Tax Coordination Committee for several years and was a longtime member of the Tourism Committee, according to a statement from the county.

Dickinson was also greatly involved in environmental initiatives, including having a boat inspection program to reduce the introduction of invasive species and to reduce the use of road salt in the Lake George basin.

“Dennis Dickinson was a good friend and leader who will be greatly missed by all of us here at Warren County. He dedicated much of his life to Lake George and Warren County, and was a champion for preserving Lake George water quality, through his years as an elected official and in his private sector work and career in civil engineering and land surveying,” said Kevin Geraghty, Warrensburg town supervisor and chairman of the Warren County Board of Supervisors, in a statement. “His leadership in Warren County’s tourism industry helped shepherd the Lake George region through the hard times of the COVID-19 pandemic. We offer our deepest condolences to his loved ones. Dennis will be sorely missed.”

Assemblyman Matt Simpson, R-Horicon, praised Simpson’s dedication to protecting the lake.

“Dennis’s commitment to Lake George was unwavering,” Simpson said in a statement. “He understood the symbiotic relationship between environmental preservation and economic prosperity. He understood the lake was the greatest asset. You damage the lake, and you damage the community and economy alike. You have to take care of the lake.”
