A 76-year-old Troy man was killed on the Menands Hudson Bike Trail on Thursday in what police are calling a homicide.

State Police responded to the bike trail at around 4 p.m. to investigate a suspicious death. The man, identified as Daniel Frament, was found unresponsive and died at the scene. Because of the man’s injuries, State Police were called to investigate.

An autopsy conducted on Friday determined that the cause of death was severe head trauma, State Police said.

The news was concerning to people who frequent the trail.

Ernie Lawya, of Watervliet, said his wife and children walk the path every day.

“It’s not the safest thing for them to be down here by themselves because it’s secluded or the bike trails are secluded as well,” he said.
