Police: Petersburgh man drove drunk with child in car
A Petersburgh man is accused of drunken driving with a child in the car.
State Police were called to a report of a fight in a vehicle on Taborton Road in Petersburgh on Saturday, April 20 around 5:30 p.m. Troopers found the empty car near the intersection with Kipple Road.
The driver, Thomas S. Burdick, 32, was found by police at a nearby home. The investigation found Burdick operated the vehicle without a license during the dispute and struck a passenger, injuring the person, State Police said.
A child was in the car, investigators said, and there was an order of protection prohibiting Burdick from having contact with the victim.
Burdick was charged with aggravated DWI with a child, assault, criminal contempt, endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated unlicensed operator and other vehicle and traffic violations.
He was taken to the State Police station in Sand Lake, and recorded a breath sample with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.15% – nearly twice the legal limit.
Burdick was arraigned in Sand Lake Town Court and released on his own recognizance.
Burdick has had some run-ins with the law before. In November and December, he was arrested twice before for allegedly trying to make a purchase with a fraudulent $20 bill, and for breaking into a Berlin home and stealing items including a person’s vehicle from their garage.
