Wilton man gets over 31 years in prison for drug trafficking in Saratoga County

A Wilton man is facing decades in prison for trafficking cocaine, fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine in Saratoga County.

Shahid Smith, 33, was convicted after February jury trial in Saratoga County Court for selling the drugs on four different occasions in the county in December 2022. Smith has a lengthy criminal history that includes multiple convictions for drug-related offenses and possession of a loaded firearm.

Smith was sentenced to 31 ½ years in prison. 

The Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office released a statement saying that this conviction is part of the ongoing efforts to combat the sale and use of illegal drugs in the community.

As of Monday, there have been 277 overdoses and 17 fatal overdoses in the county. There were 727 overdoes and 39 fatal overdoses.
