Police: Woman found dead covered with household items

A woman was found dead inside a Glens Falls apartment Tuesday covered with “household items,” police said. Police responded to 143 Maple St., Apartment A at around 4:45 p.m. to conduct a welfare check. When officers and firefighters arrived, they forced entry and found a woman deceased.

Glens Falls Police have identified the woman found dead in an apartment Tuesday as a 66-year-old woman.

Melanie Conway was found dead inside a Glens Falls apartment Tuesday covered with “household items,” police said. 

An autopsy conducted on Wednesday found no signs of trauma or injuries that would have contributed to the immediate cause of death. Police are still waiting for toxicology results.

Police were called to 143 Maple St., Apartment A at around 4:45 p.m. for a welfare check. Emergency crews arrived, broke in and found a woman dead.

A resident of the home was interviewed, and the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Unit was brought in.

Police think the person had been dead for 24 to 36 hours, investigators said.

The circumstances remain under investigation.

A source tells NewsChannel 13 that the death appears to be suspicious. Police said there is no threat to the public at this time.

NewsChannel 13’s Stella Porter spoke to a friend of the woman who said she was in her late 50s. She lived there with her boyfriend.

A neighbor described the woman as really kind.
