Latham man charged with violating restraining order while in prison

A man from Latham is facing charges for violating a restraining order while already in jail.
Matthew Smith, 58, repeatedly called someone with a restraining order against him, the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office said.
Smith is now facing a felony charge of aggravated family offense, and a misdemeanor of criminal contempt.
Smith was convicted two years ago of leading deputies on a car chase after stealing from a Halfmoon store.
