Sentencing delayed in ex-Rensselaer County election official’s ballot scheme case

Sentencing has been delayed again for the former Rensselaer County elections commissioner who admitted to a scheme to apply for illegal absentee ballots.

Jason Schofield pleaded guilty in January 2023 to identity theft. He unlawfully used the names and dates of birth of voters to fraudulently apply for absentee ballots in the 2021 Rensselaer County elections.

Schofield was scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday. However, the matter has been rescheduled until Nov. 15 at 9:30 a.m.
