Man accused of kidnapping, shooting denied bail

Man accused of kidnapping, shooting in Berkshire County denied bail.

The Dalton, Massachusetts man accused of trying to chain up a man in his basement, leading to a fight and a shooting was denied bail after a hearing.

Nicholas Lighten is accused of getting into a fight with the victim on May 9 at Ligthen’s home at Housatonic Street. Lighten then allegedly forced the victim to the basement, tried to restrain him and then shot him in the upper thigh, according to the Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office.

The victim drove himself to Berkshire Medical Center, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

Lighten was denied bail for a period of four months because of the seriousness of the allegations and Lighten’s criminal record, according to our media partners at The Berkshire Eagle.
