A Bennington County man is accused of assaulting his girlfriend.

Samuel Carpenter, 29, got into a physical fight with the woman on East Arlington Road Sunday morning, then left on foot, police said.

Carpenter was found a short time later in a small-wooded area near a home on School Street in Arlington. He allegedly struggled with police but was quickly taken into custody.

Carpenter also allegedly possessed and used a debit card that didn’t belong to him, police said.

He was charged with domestic assault, petit larceny, identity theft and resisting arrest.

He was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday afternoon.
