Owners of the summer hot spot, Jim’s Tastee Freez in Delmar, said their neon sign may have sparked a small electrical fire, Tuesday.

Someone came running outside and said, “Tastee Freez is on fire!” according to owner Gregory Sheldon.

His wife called 911, while he rushed over to the store to help.

“I jumped in the car and blazed over here as quick as I could to find the fire department here and everybody safe, which is the most important thing,” said Sheldon. “Material possessions can be replaced, although this place is very close to our heart in every possible way.”

Neighbors also helped douse the flames with a smaller hose before firefighters arrived.
In the end, there was only slight damage to the roof of Jim’s Tastee Freez.

The owner, Sheldon, says he’s grateful to the Elsmere Volunteer Fire Department. Thanks to their quick work, the ice cream spot was able to open back up quickly.
