A Mechanicville veteran received a statewide honor for his service on and off the battlefield.

Private Paul O’Keefe was inducted into the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame on Tuesday morning by Sen. Jim Tedisco.

O’Keefe served in the Army during the Korean War.

He now serves his fellow veterans as a chaplain. He has also been a firefighter with the Hemstreet Park Fire Department for 65 years.

He has raised thousands of dollars as president of the Albany Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
