WNYT-NewsChannel 13 names Josh Koumjian News Director

Jon Hitchcock, Vice President and General Manager of WNYT and WNYA, has named Josh Koumjian the stations’ new News Director. This is a promotion for Koumjian, who previously had served as the stations’ Assistant News Director.

“I’m a believer that promotions aren’t always decided from the top, often they are decided from within,” says Hitchcock, “Josh’s advancement is a testament to the positive impact he’s had on our team, who have collectively responded with support and encouragement under his leadership.”

Koumjian is a true local success story, whose unwavering commitment to serving his team and the Capital Region has ultimately paved the way for his advancement. Koumjian graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism. He joined WNYT in 2007 as an Associate Producer and has served as the station’s Assistant News Director since 2023.

“I love that we get to provide different perspectives on so many stories and people who live in the same communities we do,” says Koumjian, “At the end of the day we all call the Capital Region home and we all want it to be the best it can be.”

Born and raised in Troy, NY, his roots run deep and he understands the station’s responsibility to serve the people of the Capital Region.

“As a Capital Region native who grew up watching this station there is a high standard to uphold,” says Koumjian, “It’s my home, and my family’s home and I have a great deal of pride for this community. For me, stepping into this pivotal role is an honor. And it’s one that I don’t take lightly.”

Josh has served as the interim News Director for WNYT and WNYA since April. His official tenure as News Director begins today.
