Smoky smell evacuates state building

Smoke caused the evacuation of a state building in Albany on Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters responded a building at the Core 2 building on Swan Street.

round 12:30 p.m. A motor got overheated and generated an odor of smoke throughout the building, according to Fire Chief Joseph Gregory. 

It was difficult to locate the origin because of the size of the building, Gregory said.

Workers and students in a children’s area were evacuated as a precaution.

The building was not damaged. No one was hurt.

State employees eventually returned to the building.
