Property manager: Victim of fatal shooting may have entered wrong mobile home
The victim of a fatal shooting at a mobile home park Friday may have entered the wrong home when they were shot, according to the property manager.
The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office received a call at around 11:30 a.m. reporting a shooting inside a residence at the Northway Estates Mobile Home park at 2560 U.S. Route 9 next to the town offices.
Deputies arrived to find a man who was shot. The man was deceased at the scene. The investigation is focusing on a home on Raymond Drive.
The park’s management just sent a letter to residents saying they believe someone who came to visit a resident entered the wrong home and was shot by the homeowner who assumed the visitor was an intruder.
A neighbor says they saw someone being led away in handcuffs. It’s unclear at this point if anyone is under arrest or facing charges. Sheriff Michael Zurlo said there is no danger to the public.
New York State Police crime scene investigators are still processing the scene. The victim’s name is not being released until the next of kin is notified.
When asked if this incident is being investigated as a homicide, Zurlo said he has not been able to make that determination.
“I can’t. We’re not to that point yet, and I think further investigation and interviews, hopefully we’ll have a better picture later in the day as to what exactly took place here,” he said.
A source tells NewsChannel 13 that the shooting happened during an attempted burglary. Zurlo said he could not comment on that.
When asked if there had been any burglaries in the mobile home park, he said no.
“We’ve had very little activity in this mobile home park,” he said.
Neighbors reported feeling very safe. One resident had just downsized from Ballston Lake.
