Albany storm damage caused by straight-line winds, National Weather Service says
The storm that caused significant damage and power outages in Albany on Thursday had straight-line winds up to 75 miles per hour, the National Weather Service said on Friday. It was not a tornado.
Albany officials confirmed that there were several minor injuries caused by tents and other objects caught in the storm during the Alive at Five concert. They were not aware of any serious injuries.
In addition, there was the partial collapse of a building at 13 Thacher St. and several other buildings had roof damage. The Department of General Services recalled the Forestry Division and outside contractors to triage more than 50 reports of downed trees, the city said in a statement.
There are more than 20 pieces of equipment deployed to remove these trees.
