Bennington Police are looking for the suspect involved in an armed robbery and aggravated assault with a weapon incident that happened on Friday.

Police say the carjacking happened around 11:20 p.m. on Friday in the Walmart parking lot at 210 Northside Drive in Bennington.

They say the suspect entered the victim’s vehicle through the passenger window after displaying a firearm.

Authorities say the victim was forced out of their vehicle and the suspect fled the area with the victim’s vehicle.

The victim was treated on scene for minor injuries, said Bennington Police.

It was also noted during the investigation that the suspect tried to rob two Walmart associates while they were working outside of the store. The suspect bound the two associates with duct tape while demanded money from both employees. The suspect ran away from them after a delivery vehicle drove by the scene.

Police say the offender is about 5’5″ and was wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, white shoes, gloves, and a mask at the time, who was described as a white male by witnesses. A photo of the suspect is above. The suspect stole a 2023 white Toyota Highlander during their escape from the parking lot.

The car was then found today on Elm Street. NewsChannel 13 spoke to the Travis Bentley who says he towed the car.

”The car was actually in good shape. It was just sitting on the side of the road and the police department were there, and they went up to the house, and that was in front of the car, was in front of and there were questioning people trying to figure out who stole it,” said Bentley.

One neighbor near Elm Street says he surprised something like this happened in this neighborhood.

“So my understanding is that it’s a fairly safe area. I mean, you hear different things, said Mike Begg. “And then the car wound up on Elm Street, which is super close to here. So, you kind of wonder, you know, what the person was thinking, you know.”

Bennington Police say the offender is unknown at this time and the incident is under investigation. They ask anyone with information to contact them at 802-442-1030 or through their tip line.

They also are asking residents of Elm Street and surrounding neighborhoods to check their security cameras for any suspicious activity after 11:30 p.m. on Friday, July 5 into the morning hours of Saturday, July 6.
