Tornado leaves mess in Broadalbin
BROADALBIN, N.Y. (WNYT) – Locals are shocked in Broadalbin after a Tornado struck the town Wednesday afternoon.
The National Weather Service said an EF – 0 tornado touched down on Route 29 just next to Carrero’s Cuts. The storm brought up to 80 mile per hour winds and knocked down trees in neighbor’s yards.
Ken Kackison lives right across the street from Carrero’s Cuts and he said he was frightened the moment the Tornado hit.
“It was one of the scariest moments of my life,” Kackison said. “When I saw that tree bend and the wind picked up, I ran into the house and there were trees snapping in the front yard. And when I got into the house, I had no idea about this tree in the backyard.”
Chris Kaszuba works at Carrero’s Cuts and he thought it was just a normal storm was coming.
“When I went to close the door, I had looked up and noticed a full-blown tornado about 50 yards away in a field behind the building,” said Kaszuba.
Kaszuba said it took him a minute to realize that it was truly a tornado coming.
“It was fully circular with a small debris field under it, not quite touching the ground, about 20 or 30ft off the ground and, kind of stationary at the moment. And once it clicked in my head what I was looking at, I took off,” Kaszuba said.
Kaszuba said once he realized it was a tornado he then ran to the basement for cover.
