Brooklyn man charged with scamming $25k from Rensselaer man
A Brooklyn man is accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from a Rensselaer County resident.
Someone reached out to the victim online posing as a Federal Communications Commission agent, state Police said.
The scammer then demanded payments, and eventually stole $25,000.
Sheng Chen, 46, picked up cash from the victim, investigators said.
Chen was arrested, and police are still looking for more suspects.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Capital Region Crime Analysis Center (CRCAC), the New York State Intelligence Center (NYSIC), and the New York City Police Department (NYPD) all helped with the investigation.
