Canal Corp. preparing to lift dams if needed due to storm

The Canal Corporation is preparing to lift Erie Canal’s movable dams if the region gets drenched from the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby.
The dams between Lock E-8 in Rotterdam and Lock E-15 in Fort Plain may be raised depending on the storm’s forecast.
Residents are encouraged to take any appropriate actions regarding vessels, docks or seasonal structures in those areas.
If the dams are lifted, dams, vessels and docks would experience a full lowering of the canal to winter levels and would likely be grounded.
