Planned Parenthood is set to close two clinics in the Capital Region.

The organization offers reproductive health care. It cited “compounding financial and political challenges” as their reason for shutting the doors at two locations.

The Amsterdam and Cobleskill clinics are closing. Around 2,200 patients receive care at those locations.

The third facility closing upstate is in Goshen.

Planned Parenthood of Grater New York said the decision was “difficult, but necessary.”

Patients in Amsterdam and Cobleskill will be sent to locations in Johnstown and Schenectady, according to the organization’s spokeswoman.

The company has been trying to minimize its financial losses and reduce its operations.

Back in 2020, Planned Parenthood of Greater New York temporarily closed sites and furloughed staff to handle the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
