Watervliet is honoring one of its own on Thursday.

Melique Garcia is back from Paris after competing in the 100M dash at the Olympics.

The city is officially recognizing Aug. 15 as “Melique Garcia Day.”

Garcia is a 2010 graduate of Watervliet High school and is now a track-and-field coach for the school.

At the summer games, Garcia ran for Honduras, which is the home country of his father.

Melique will be at the Watervliet City Council meeting, which starts at 4 p.m.
