Pittsfield man gets 2 to 6 years in prison for attempted bank robbery

A Pittsfield man was sentenced on Monday to 2 to 6 years in prison for attempting to rob a bank.

Louis Hoffman, 34, walked into the Berkshire Bank at 66th West St. in Pittsfield on Nov. 20, 2022. He handed the teller a note telling her to stay calm and “not f— around” and no one will get hurt, according to the Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office.

Hoffman demanded that she give him all the $50 and $100 bills in her drawer and no dye packs, according to the DA.

The note ended with “Thank you.” When the teller handed him the money, he said: “Do you think I am stupid? Everything in the drawer.”

He then left without the money and was arrested a short time later. Hoffman confessed to police.

Hoffman has a criminal history for robbery. In 2017, he used a gun and injured a gas station attendant during a robbery, prosecutors said.
