One injured, suspect died by suicide in Thursday incident

Police provided an update on the heavy law enforcement presence near Johnsonville on Thursday night. Rensselaer County Sheriff Kyle Bourgault said police responded to a report of a "home invasion" on Anders Road in the town of Pittstown. Authorities said they found a woman in need of medical attention upon arrival. It was discovered that the woman was violently assaulted by another family member, and the suspect fled the residence on foot, police said.

Rensselaer County Sheriff Kyle Bourgault said police responded to a report of a “home invasion” on Anders Road in the town of Pittstown.

Authorities said they found a woman in need of medical attention upon arrival.

It was discovered that the woman was violently assaulted by another family member, and the suspect fled the residence on foot, police said.

New York State Police assisted the Sheriff’s Office at the scene and helped to locate the suspect in a wooded area about 300 yards from his home, Bourgault said.

The suspect was found deceased, and police confirmed that he died by suicide.

Sheriff Bourgault said the office would like to thank agencies that assisted in the matter including Renssalaer County Bureau of Public Safety, New York State Police, Johnsonville Ambulance, Pittstown Ambulance and the Pittstown Fire Department.

The Sheriff’s Office said they extend their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends affected by this incident.
