New Albany County bill aims to limit some tobacco, vaping sales
There’s a new bill in the Albany County Legislature designed to help curb the use of tobacco and vaping products.
It’s called the Quit Using Inhalants and Tobacco Act, or the QUIT Act for short.
The bill adds $150,000 for education on substance abuse prevention.
It also creates a tobacco retail license requirement in the county and puts a limit on vape sales within 1,000 feet of a school.
Around 750,000 people suffer from smoking-related illnesses in New York state and about 28,000 people die, according to the Albany County Legislature.
