Milton man killed after falling into compactor

A Milton man was killed Wednesday after falling into a compactor at Cottrell Paper.

The industrial accident happened shortly before 12:30 at the plant on Rock City Road Milton.

Anthony T. Smith, 42, became trapped in the compactor, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.

Employees at the company and members of the Rock City Falls Department and Community EMS freed him from the machine, but they were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

New York State Police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration helped at the scene.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
