Report: Nurse practitioners sue NY state for gender discrimination

More than 200 nurse practitioners in New York have filed a class-action lawsuit against the state for gender discrimination.

Two-hundred nurse practitioners, primarily women, claim the state has underpaid them for doing similar work as physicians, the Times Union reported.

The nurse practitioners are arguing their low pay grade is limiting their opportunities and they want to be reclassified for a higher grade.

In New York state, nurse practitioners can diagnose illnesses and physical conditions. They can also prescribe medicine. However, there are still some things that needs a physician’s approval.
