WATERFORD, N.Y. (WNYT) – A fire broke out behind a home on Fairview Ave. in Waterford Friday evening.

One neighbor said that she first noticed the flames around 9 p.m. Smoke could be seen in the air up to a mile away from the fire.

The family told NewsChannel 13 that the fire took place in their garage. They said they don’t believe that there was any damage to the house itself.

“We are in shock right now,” one of the family members said.

The Northside Fire District was on scene with mutual aid from neighboring departments with over a dozen firefighters.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
