Schenectady, Albany counties to mandate masks in county buildings

Schenectady County and Albany County will soon require masks for all employees and visitors in county buildings. The new rule in both counties takes effect on Aug. 9.

Data from the CDC shows both counties are in an area where there is substantial transmission of the coronavirus.

“While we know the vaccine is effective, we also know that the Delta variant is more contagious than previous strains of the virus,” said Schenectady County Manager Rory Fluman “As we continue to follow CDC guidance, and in order to slow spread, we’re strongly recommending all Schenectady County residents wear a face mask when indoors in public settings.”

The CDC’s guidelines recommend masks indoors for everyone, even those who have been vaccinated, in areas where there is substantial or high transmission. Right now, most of the Capital Region is classified as substantial transmission.
