Albany Police arrest two for assault, police officer attacked by pit-bull dog in the process

Albany Police say two people have been arrested and charged for assault after an incident that happened on the 300 block of Orange Street Saturday night.

Officers say responded to the scene around 10:20 p.m. after receiving a call for an assault.

Police learned upon arrival that a physical altercation between neighbors had occurred.

Police determined that Shabrel Rollin, 28, of Albany had punched a female victim in the face, which resulted in swelling and bruising.

While one of the officers was attempting to place Rollin in custody, her pit-bull attacked and bit him in the thigh area, which resulted in his partner to discharge one shot from his duty weapon. Police say the shot struck the dog in the shoulder area, eliminating the threat. They say the dog was later confirmed to be deceased.

Police add that the assault incident also resulted in the arrest of Barry Walker, 39, of Albany, for strangling a second female victim and causing her to fall to the ground.

Albany Police say Walker struck the second female victim in the face and caused her to sustain swelling and bruising.

Walker was also in possession of a quantity of crack cocaine at the time of his arrest, said police.

Albany Police say the officer who was attacked by the pit-bull was treated on the scene for several puncture wounds to his upper thigh area and taken to Albany Medical Center for further treatment and has since been released.

Police say Rollin was charged with third-degree assault and third-degree criminal mischief. She was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court Sunday morning and released.

Authorities say Walker was charged with the following:

  • Third-degree assault
  • Third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
  • Criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation
  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance

Walker was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court Sunday morning and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
