Albany Police say they are investigating a fatal pedestrian motor vehicle accident that happened early Sunday morning on Krumkill Road.

Officers responded to the scene around 6:55 a.m. to the area of Bender Avenue and Krumkill Road for reports of a person struck by a vehicle.

Police located 50-year-old Jason Steinberg of Herkimer with serious injuries, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene shortly after authorities arrived.

The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and has been cooperative with the investigation, police added.

Muhammad Khan lives right by where the accident happened.

“So, it was early this morning around 6, 6:30. I heard a lot of sirens, police cars, ambulance running around in the area,” Khan said.

Albany Police said preliminary investigation has determined that the victim was walking on the sidewalk, when the driver of the vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and onto the sidewalk, striking the victim.

“I asked the police what happened, and they were like there was a major accident, and they kind of blocked up all the roads and stuff. So, the traffic was going down one way and completely shut down the road,” said Khan.

Officials said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
