Capital Region native describes house shaking, massive rain from Milton

Capital Region native Al Engels is from Lake George and moved to Tampa in 2015.

He and his wife decided not to evacuate ahead of Hurricane Milton. Engels told NewsChannel 13’s Caitlin Irla that when he woke up and looked outside Thursday, there were uprooted trees and singles from his roof everywhere.

His wife was born and raised in Tampa and she said she hasn’t seen anything like it.

“And last night, we’re sitting on the couch before power went out and she looked at me and she said ‘Ok, I am actually scared now,’ and she does not get scared from hurricanes,” he said.

The force of the hurricane was so intense, according to Engels.

“Like we could actually feel the house shaking. When we were looking out the window, the windows were shaking. The force of the wind and the rain was just pushing all of this water underneath all of our doors and our windows, we looked out the front door and it was like a monsoon,” he said.

Now, the couple is in clean-up mode.
