Albany man charged in Menands shooting

An Albany man has been arrested in connection with a shooting last month in Menands.

Zacceus Cancer, 24, is accused of shooting a 35-year-old man on Sept. 7 around 4:30 p.m. in the area of Exit 6 and Broadway. The victim was treated on scene and taken to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

On Tuesday, investigators searched an apartment in Albany and found a loaded handgun and a quantity of crack cocaine.

Cancer was arraigned Tuesday in Menands Village Court on charges of attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment. He was indicted Friday on these charges by an Albany grand jury.

He is currently in Albany County Jail.

New York State Police, the Watervliet and Albany police departments, Albany county Sheriff’s Office and Capitol Region Crime Analysis Center helped in the investigation.
