Police: Glenville woman drove wrong way on Thruway, crashed while drunk

A Glenville woman is accused of driving the wrong way on the Thruway and crashing while drunk.

The crash happened just after 1 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12.

State Police had received a report of a wrong-way driver. Troopers patrolling the area found the two-vehicle crash on I-90 eastbound just west of Exit 24 in Albany.

Alexandria M. McCumber, 29, was driving north in the southbound lanes, State Police said.

McCumber and the driver of the other vehicle were both removed and taken to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries. They are both in critical, but stable condition, police said.

A passenger in the victim’s vehicle was treated and released from the hospital.

The eastbound lanes of I-90 between Exit 25 and Exit 24 were closed for about four hours for accident reconstruction.

McCumber was charged with vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, DWI and several vehicle and traffic violations. She will be processed after she recovers. The investigation continues, and charges may change, police said.
