A group of 181 new troopers were honored in completing the basic school of the New York State Police Academy on Thursday morning.
A graduation ceremony was held at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center.
“Four thousand individuals applied and had hoped to be sitting right where you are at this very moment. Less than 1,200 were processed, and you are the elite — the very elite — 181 who made it here. That’s less than one percent,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said.
At a separate event discussing decreasing gun violence in New York state, Hochul said the State Police budget has increased 30% and a thousand new positions added.
