Troy man gets prison time for bomb threat to kids

A Troy man will spend up to 3 years in prison for telling a group of children he had a bomb.

Mathius Ortiz, 31, was arrested for the April 19 incident. He approached the children that had just gotten off a school bus in the area of Jefferson and Hill Street. He threw a metallic cylindrical device, which had numbers and a clock timer, and told them they should run.

The children went to a nearby residence and called police.

Ortiz had told police he considered it a prank.

Ortiz was sentenced to 1 ½ to 3 years in prison.
