Albany County held its Honor A Veteran ceremony on Monday.

Albany County officials typically honor a deceased veteran for his or her service on the first Monday of each month. However, they honored two this month: Andrew Pinckney Sr. and his son, Andrew Pinckney Jr.

Pinckney Sr. served during World War II and was shot down over Germany, where he remained a POW for 11 months.

Upon returning to the United States, he became an attorney. He passed away in 1995.

His son, Andrew Pinckney Jr., served during the Vietnam War, was awarded a Purple Heart, and worked for the United States Postal Service for many years following the war.

We salute them, and thank them for their service.
