District: Averill Park middle school students made threats on social media

Students at Algonquin Middle School in Averill Park middle school students have been arrested and being disciplined after the district said they posted threatening comments on social media.

The issue was reported to the school and an investigation was conducted by school administration, Rensselaer County Sherif’s Office and New York State Police.

Students or staff were not in danger.

“We reiterate that threats of all kinds are taken very seriously and students who have made such threats face serious consequences through our school’s Code of Conduct, as well as potential criminal charges,” the district said in a statement.
