Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan announced the launch of the city’s tree pruning program.
The program will care for the city’s mature street trees, city leaders said. It’s an effort which has not been done in Albany for more than a generation.
The program is expected to take four years, and will cost $3.6 million to complete. Half of the cost is being funded by federal grant funding and the American Forests’ Catalyst Fund.
The work on the city’s trees begins this week.
City leaders expect around 25% of the mature trees throughout the city to be pruned by March of 2025, they said.
