Family: Man killed in Adams crash also lost son in Afghanistan

The pedestrian killed in a crash in Adams on Sunday was on his way to present an award created in honor of son who was killed in Afghanistan, according to the family.

The crash happened around 5:12 p.m. on Route 8 near the border of Adams and North Adams. Michael DeMarsico was crossing the street to enter the Bounti-Fare restaurant, when he was struck.

The family’s GoFundMe said DeMarsico was going to present an award to a player in North Adams Youth Football.

“Our lives tragically changed in 2012 when we lost our brother in Afghanistan, and 12 short years later, we lost our dad,” the GoFundMe said.

Army Pfc. Michael R. DeMarsico II, 20, was killed on Aug. 16, 2012 from injuries from an improvised explosive device.

The driver is cooperating with the investigation. Alcohol is not a factor in the crash.

The money raised through the GoFundMe will be used to pay funeral expenses and bills.
