Police: Gansevoort man caused crash while nearly 3x too drunk to drive

A Gansevoort man is accused of driving while drunk and crashing a chain-reaction crash.

State Police said Jarod B. Nichols, 42, was driving north on Route 9, when he struck a vehicle stopped at a red light. That vehicle was pushed into another vehicle stopped in front of it. No one was injured.

The crash happened on Nov. 11 around 6:20 p.m., but police reported it on Friday, Nov. 22 as part of its weekly DWI roundup.

Nichols was arrested and taken to the State Police station, where he recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.23% – nearly three times the legal limit (of 0.08%).

He also has a previous DWI conviction in the last 10 years, so the charge was upgraded to a felony.

Nichols is scheduled to appear in Moreau Town Court on Dec. 4.
