Reverend Robert Dixon, 103, was laid to rest in Albany on Monday. He was the last local Buffalo Soldier from World War II.

Dixon was stationed in West Point, and he served in World War II from 1941 to 1946.

The Buffalo Soldiers were a group of African American soldiers. The name is a nod to naturally curly hair and ferocious fighting.

Reverend Dixon was the longtime pastor of Mount Cavalry Baptist Church in Albany. He was also very active in the Albany community.

He played a big role in helping to start the Albany Community Police Relations Board back in the 1980s.

Calling hours were Monday at Monument New Testament Mission Baptist Church, and Dixon was buried at Graceland Cemetery.
